HUTHA HICKS

I am concerned about The Art Attacks' future. The community of Sycamore should also be concerned. Even if you might never take a class there, their presence in the downtown business area is important.

Years ago, the only place my daughter could take an art class was Saturday mornings at NIU. My husband and I spent most of the morning in the hallway of the art building reading while we waited for her. We didn't leave to go home, shop or get a cup of coffee. It wasn't convenient.

My son now takes classes through out the year at The Art Attack. He has people he knows teaching and sometimes students he recognizes from school. I am able to drop him off and depending on the time of day, I can shop the downtown or get a cup of coffee. Other times I go to the library or Brown's. See what I'm doing...I'm shopping adn supporting the library. I'm not sitting ina building reading. I am sure that I am not the only parent doing this.

So, if your interested in keeping the downtown area alive, supporting The Art Attack is a special way to do it. Adults and kids get to experience art, local people are employed as teachers, a historic building gets new life and the downtown businesses gain customers.
